FAQ

Questions & Answers

1) Where did you guys come from?
Our guild is made up of a wide group of people who enjoy raiding on a regular, but not hectic schedule.

2) What are your raiding goals?
We tackle all end game content as a guild and have fun while doing so.

3) Do you pvp?
Yes, many members do enjoy pvp and have some pvp events and succesful arena teams.

4) Are you a casual guild?
Some of our members are, however all of us have one common goal to achieve progress as a guild in all of the games we play, without being unduly stressed while doing it. We do not feel that raiding 5 nights a week is necessary to defeat end-game content; we do strive to see as much of the raiding content as we can.

5) What kind of leadership structure do you have?
Someguild has five main levels of membership: Guild Master, Officer, SomeCouncilor, Member, and Recruit. In addition, member alts are tagged as such, and from time to time you may see a temporary title awarded to someone out of humor or to celebrate exceptional achievement or service to the guild.

The Guild Master, Officers, and SomeCouncilors make up the leadership of the guild. This cadre of highly trusted officers and councilors advises on the implementation of guild policy, has a voice in adjudication, and provides the in-game leadership to influence, motivate, and enable our memberbase to contribute towards the growth and success of Someguild.

All Members of Someguild are eligible to Sponsor a new Recruit. These efforts are important and are a significant reason that Someguild is a strong and enjoyable guild. Our efforts to accept only the best quality people and to oversee their careful integration into the membership drive our success.

6) Is there an age limit to join your guild?
Yes, our minimum age limit is 18. Our guild chat could make a sailor blush at times and is far from appropriate for minors.

7) This is my first MMORPG, how many other first timers do you have?
We have a number of members who are experiencing their first MMORPG. Many of us have played several, including betas of various games.

Raiding System

DKP System

We have chosen to employ a "Zero-Sum" system. Note the quotes around the words zero-sum. While items are awarded in a true zero-sum manner (meaning an item's cost is divided evenly among other players in the raid and on standby) we do apply other award points to the raid and subtract points from a dummy toon named Someguild. This results in some DKP Inflation which we will carefully manage and discuss further below. This overall schema served us well in TBC and we expect it to be even better in WotLK based on adjustments we've made from what we learned in TBC.

DKP is tracked via WebDKP.

-- Tier 8 25-man DKP (Ulduar)
-- Tier 9 25-man DKP (Onyxia and normal Coliseum)

New Content:
Each tier of content will have its own DKP table.
Each tier of heroic content will have its own DKP table.
(This does not include dungeons with hardmode encounters inside of a normal mode instance, i.e. Ulduar, & OS)
Barring any significant changes by Blizzard, the Item Type Costs should remain static.
DKP can NOT be transferred from one table to another.

Mains/Alts:
Your DKP is yours to spend. You may spend it on any character you choose to do so on. Points will accrue under the first toon you raid on. Alts may elect to pay full DKP to make a normal bid following the normal rules for such. You are very unlikely to see any alts in a progression raid.

DKP Inflation:
As we do not have a % Attendance tied to our DKP system we will allow DKP Inflation in the form of DKP Awards. This will give long-term raiders of a slight edge over new players. This amount will be partially offset by any DKP penalties (don't get knocked into those whelps ;) ) and by other means if deemed necessary by the Officers. In addition, players that leave Someguild will have their positive DKP removed or reduced as we do not enforce a minimum % of attendance. This is to protect our regular raiding members. Players who do so, and have looted items in their history will have their DKP credited to the Someguild toon to help with DKP Inflation, those who have no looted items will be removed from the table and their DKP will be spread across those in the raid(s) at the time they received DKP.

DKP Awarded:

Item DKP:
The DKP for each item will be divided by those actively in the raid and those on standby. For example, in a full raid with 5 members also on standby and the case of a !bid on a ring, each player would be awarded 1 DKP (30DKP/30 Players) and one player would also be paying 30 DKP. See below for a list of item costs by type for both bids and downgrades.

Attendance DKP:
A flat amount of 1 DKP will be awarded for each Member who is either actively taking part in the raid or who meets the full standby criteria (below) for the night in question. Players who did not sign-up for the raid via the forums are NOT eligibile for this DKP.

Progression DKP:
Progression raids award 2 additional DKP each night for Members who actively take part in the raid. These Members are experiencing increased repair and consumable costs, and are paving the way for others. A progression raid is defined as a raid in which we are facing at least one encounter we have not yet defeated three times. This DKP is NOT awarded to Members who are standing by.

First Kill DKP:
The first time a boss is killed, bonus DKP will be awarded to those who took an active part in the battle. The standard amount awarded will be 100 DKP / 25 Members in the raid (4 DKP each). However, the final boss in a zone and certain hard mode kills may be awarded an amount greater than this at the discretion of the guild leadership. This bonus DKP is NOT awarded to Members who are standing by.

Standby DKP:
To receive standby DKP:
1) Your character must be eligible to participate in the selected raid.
2) You must remain online for the entire scheduled duration of the raid and in the appropriate Ventrillo channel. You may continue to run heroics, PvP, do dailies, play an alt but you must be willing to leave any other activity immediately if needed in the raid. Failure to do so will result in loss of standby credit.
3) You must respond to the Raid Leaders when they ask for standbys to speak up in guild chat at the start of the raid or at any other point during the raid via tells, Ventrillo, etc. Failure to respond will result in the loss of standby credit.

Players who meet all of the above criteria will receive:
* 100% of the earned Item DKP rounded to the nearest whole point will now be awarded to those who meet the above criteria.
* 100% of the Attendance DKP will be awarded to those who meet the above criteria and made a post in the raid's sign-up thread.
* First Kill DKP and Progression DKP awards will NOT be awarded to those on standby.

If someone meets all other standby criteria, and can make themselves consistently available by 10pm EST but is unable to do so by 9pm EST due to work, then they will receive Standby Item DKP from the point they are both online and in Ventrilo. If a boss fight is in progress they will NOT received DKP for that battle, but would for subsequent battles. Clearance for this type of situation must be granted in advance by Guild Leadership.

Item Type Costs (Bid/Downgrade):
Cloaks, Necklaces, Relics (Idols, Librams, Sigils, Totems), Thrown Weapons, Wands, Shields, Off-Hand Items, & Trinkets: 25/8
Boss Quest Items (non-group lootable), Belts, Boots, Bracers, *Gloves, & Rings: 30/10
Chestpieces, Leggings, Shoulders, *Gloves & Helmets: 40/13
One-Handed Weapons (main/off-hands), Guns, Bows, & Crossbows: 50/17
Two-Handed Weapons: 75/25**
Tier 9 Set Tokens: 50/non downgrade-able

*In Ulduar gloves cost 30/10 dkp and in dungeons beyond Ulduar cost 40/13 dkp. This was done to make prices for "primary slots" similar across the board and help keep them in the same ratio against Tier/Token based items as the other 4 slots.

**The second Two-Handed Weapon a Fury Warrior bids on will be charged at the Off-Hand price of 25 DKP. We analyzed the class/spec cost to gear up each item slot and found that Fury Warriors alone were imbalanced in that they had to pay 100DKP more than the average class/spec combination. To get to this, we removed the item slots that all players need for their toon - 8 armor slots, cloak, neck, 2xTrinket, 2xRing and looked at the cost of filling the item slots remaining (below). Someone shouldnt have a big advantage or disadvantage against other raiders just because of their class/spec.

Class/Spec Combination Needs (Most Common):
Ret Paladin: 2H+Libram (100)
Prot Paladin: 1H+Shield+Libram (100)
Holy Paladin: 1H+Shield+Libram (125)
Prot Warrior Needs 1H+Shield+Ranged (125)
Fury Warrior: 2x2H+Ranged (200) (150 with amended cost)
Arms Warrior: 2H+Ranged (125)
Hunter: Ranged+2H (125)
Rogue: 2x1H+Thrown (125)
DK:2H+Sigil (100)
Feral Druid: 2H+Idol (100)
2H Caster (Mage/Lock/Priest/Resto Druid/Balance Druid): 2H+Wand/Idol (100)
1H Caster (Mage/Lock/Priest/Resto Druid/Balance Druid): 1H+Offhand+Wand/Idol (100)
Resto/Elemental Shaman: 1H+Shield+Totem (100)
Enhancement Shaman: 2x1H+Totem (125)

The Bidding Process:
All items will be linked in a Raid Warning by the Loot Master. Then, each item will be bid on in turn. Bidding will only be open for 30 seconds on each item so know what you want in advance. When the Loot Master asks for bids you respond via a /tell with one of the following bid types:
!need
!downgrade

Bids:
A bid for an item at its full DKP cost. The first three times a boss is killed this is the only allowed bid type (Trash drops are eligible for downgrade bids immediately). Players who have -100 DKP or lower are disallowed from full bids. They MUST downgrade.

Downgrades:
A bid for an item at a reduced cost. Remember, bids have priority over downgrades.

In WotLK there are three main changes with downgrades.
1) The DKP will be spread across both the members actively taking part in the raid and those on standby. It will not be spread to the Someguild toon.
2) Downgrade costs are 1/3 of the full cost for the item type rounded to the nearest whole number.
3) The first three times a boss is killed, downgrades are NOT allowed.

Bidding Priority:
Simply put, bids trump downgrades. The player with the most DKP that places a !bid will be awarded the item. In the event of a tied DKP level on a bid a /random 100 will take place between the tied Members. Remember, players who have -100 DKP or lower MUST downgrade. For all downgrades, which only matter if nobody has placed a standard !bid, everyone who did a !downgrade will roll off via /random 100 (DKP standing does not apply.)

Special Items:
Certain Items will have special costs and rules as detailed below.

Crafting Materials (currently orbs):
Items used by crafters will be BoE and will go to the guild bank for purchase. These can be purchased for their specified DKP value or 1/2 the going price on the Auction House. If nobody expresses immediate interest, they will be reserved by the guild bank for the crafting of specific items or AH sale. If Blizzard continues their current methods, players can also utilize their badges and buy them from the appropriate vendor.

Runed Orbs (T8 Orbs): 5 DKP

Crusader Orbs (T9 Orbs): 8 DKP

BOE Items: These when dropped are treated like any other item. !need or !downgrade and they fall into the same prices as everything else. If nobody expresses interest they will be stored in the guild bank. From the bank they can be purchased with the following methods.

Half the going AH price, OR...

If you are already on the appropriate DKP table then you also can purchase with DKP:
--The DKP spent on these goes directly to the Someguild toon.
--If you were in the raid these dropped you can buy for downgrade DKP cost.
--If you were not in the raid you pay the full DKP cost.

Patterns:
The first few times a pattern is obtained that creates BoE items, it will be assigned to a specific crafter at no cost (at the discretion of the Officers) who can utilize the pattern immediately, has been in the guild since TBC or prior, and is commonly available, so that the crafted item becomes accessible for all of our guild members. Afterwards we will spread them to all available crafters of sufficient skill via /random 100. There will be no DKP charge for any patterns that create BoE items. This seems to be the direction Blizzard is now taking with all crafted items. If there are patterns added for BoP items we will charge the player 5 DKP per pattern which will go directly to the Someguild toon.

Legendary Weapons & Epic Mounts:
No player may win more than one Legendary Weapon or Epic Mount during WotLK. To be crystal clear, no player may win one of each. Looting priority for Legendary Weapons will be determined by the Officers of the guild. We do not wish to encourage the hoarding of DKP for an item we may never see drop, however we do recognize that those fortunate enough to win these items should be charged for the items. Epic Mounts will be distributed by a random roll. Eligibilty to roll is based upon having obtained the Raider rank or above. Players fortunate enough to win Legendary Weapons, will be charged double the normal DKP amount (based on the appropriate weapon type from the Item Type Costs table) and for Epic Mounts we will deduct a flat amount of 75 DKP. In the case of fragments of a legendary item, the full DKP price will be charged upon the looting of the initial fragment. All future fragments will go to that individual until their item is complete. Should that individual miss a raid a second player will begin collecting shards (only when the first person is not in thr raid). The second individual will be charged DKP in advance. Should we somehow have three people collecting shards simultaneously due to absences, the third player will not be charged DKP until the first player completes his/her item.
